East Campus Housing

Faculty in Residence (FIRs)
FIRs are members of the Duke faculty who live in the residence halls in order to create opportunities for meaningful interaction between students and faculty.  FIRs spend time getting to know students through informal social gatherings and intellectual dialogue with students.  FIRs are also academic advisors and can refer students to other Duke resources.

Wellness Living Learning Community
The Wellness Living Learning Community (WLLC) is a living environment that helps students develop a holistic approach to good health.  Students living in the WLLC may attend seminars on nutrition, the benefits of sleep, and creating balance.  Students may use yoga mats and fitness videos or visit the Southgate gym for additional recreational equipment.  Students in the WLLC agree to live a substance-free lifestyle.

Performing Arts Living Learning Community
The Performing Arts Living Learning Community (PALLC) is open to all majors with an interest in drama, music, or artistic expression.  Students may attend concerts in the residence hall commons room, meet local musicians and artists, and participate in the local arts community.

East Campus Facilities

Dining
First-year students participate in a meal plan at The Marketplace in the East Union on East Campus. The Marketplace offers daily all-you-care-to-eat dinner and รก la carte lunch options, as well as breakfast and brunch on weekends.

East Campus Wellness Clinic
A student health nurse is available in the clinic on weekdays.  Students can make appointments with the nurse for a variety of health and wellness concerns.

The Oasis
The Oasis is just that -- a calming and soothing place to relax, talk and/or learn how to manage stress. The Oasis offers stress-management skill-building opportunities and meditation classes, as well as resources on health topics. The health-promotion staff directs and assists students in locating resources on health issues. The Oasis is located directly under the Bell Tower on the ground floor of Bell Tower Hall on East Campus.

Lilly Library
Lilly Library is more than an undergraduate library that houses the Fine Arts, Philosophy, Film & Video, and Performing Arts Collections. The library also contains a collection of periodicals and leisure reading materials. Lilly librarians provide reference assistance and offer outreach services in the residence halls. The Thomas Room on the second floor is a popular place for first-year students to study.
