At a young age, Laxmi Rajak, T’15 and Karsh International Scholar, found her passion in dance. Born in Nepal, Rajak has immersed herself in dance styles ranging from modern and classical to traditional Himalayan folk. At Duke she joined Dhoom, Duke’s Bollywood fusion group, learning Indian dances such as Bhangra and Raas whilecombining them with hip hop rhythms.
Rajak’s interest in the culture of South Asia extends to her academic work. She will double major in international comparative studies and mathematics in addition to earning a certificate in South Asian studies. She spent the summer of 2012 as an intern working with street children in Mumbai.
